Michael Carrick moves on after Lisandro Martínez outburst

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has dismissed concerns over Lisandro Martínez's failure to issue a direct public apology to director of football Jason Wilcox, insisting the club have moved on from the defender's recent comments.

Following a 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, Martínez publicly criticised Wilcox by stating he expected more from the technical director regarding squad investment. On Thursday, the defender apologised for the timing and setting of his remarks without naming Wilcox, which Carrick confirmed was considered sufficient acknowledgment inside the dressing room.

Carrick confirmed that Martínez remains available for Sunday's Premier League fixture against Leeds United, while defenders Luke Shaw and midfielder Kobbie Mainoo face late fitness tests ahead of the match.

  • Manchester United surrendered a two-goal advantage against Brighton, losing 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup third round.
  • Atlético Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios scored after 53 seconds against Manchester United, before teammate Ademola Lookman added another goal.
