Bournemouth beat 10-man Sunderland 2-0 for first league win

Bournemouth claimed their first Premier League victory of the season with a 2-0 home win over Sunderland, who played much of the game with 10 men. Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring with a close-range header after Evanilson intercepted a loose ball behind the Sunderland defence.

Sunderland defender Kevin Danso was sent off with a straight red card in the first half for hauling down Evanilson as the striker ran clear on goal. Evanilson then doubled the lead shortly after half-time, seizing on an errant back pass from Omar Alderete before bypassing goalkeeper Robin Roefs to roll the ball into an unguarded net.

Roefs produced several subsequent saves to deny further efforts from Evanilson and Rayan, keeping the final margin at two. The result lifted Bournemouth to 15th place in the table, while Sunderland dropped to 19th following a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat.

  • Sunderland beat AZ Alkmaar 1-0 at home in the Europa League on 16 September 2026 and won 2-1 away to Torreense on 15 October 2026.
  • Sunderland's three Premier League matches before visiting Bournemouth ended in defeats by Arsenal, Manchester City and Brighton, with 2-0, 5-3 and 2-0 scorelines respectively.
