Madueke strikes late to edge Arsenal past Nottingham Forest

Substitute Noni Madueke scored with a deflected effort in the 80th minute to earn Arsenal a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The victory keeps Mikel Arteta's side three points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City with 18 points from seven matches, while Forest dropped into the relegation zone.

Arsenal dominated possession but produced only one shot on target across the entire match at the City Ground. Madueke, who replaced Eberechi Eze at half-time, cut inside from the left before his shot deflected off Jair Cunha and beat goalkeeper Matz Sels, settling the contest after Oliver Glasner's side had defended resolutely.

Forest mounted late pressure in pursuit of an equaliser, but Murillo curled narrowly wide following a solo run in stoppage time before Ezri Konsa executed a crucial challenge on Liam Delap. The defeat leaves Nottingham Forest still searching for their first home league goal of the campaign.

  • Before facing Arsenal, Nottingham Forest had recorded one draw and two defeats from their home Premier League matches this season, failing to score from 48 total attempts and seven shots on target.
  • In training before the Arsenal match, Oliver Glasner asked Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood to address the squad about finishing. Wood encouraged the players to retain confidence and prepare for their next chance.
