Manchester United have dismissed Erik ten Hag from his position as head coach, according to a club statement.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was part of ten Hag's coaching staff, has been appointed interim head coach. Under ten Hag's leadership in the 2024/2025 Premier League season, Manchester United accumulated 11 points from nine matches, placing them 14th in the table.
Ten Hag had taken charge of the team in the summer of 2022. Last season, the Red Devils recorded their worst finish in the Premier League era, ending the campaign in eighth place. Despite this, they won the FA Cup, defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the final.
Ten Hag's contract with United was set to run until the summer of 2026.
