Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
Wanted Dead or a Wild is built like a Western in comic-book wrapping: flat, sharply outlined, and as if printed on faded paper. In the base game, the backdrop is a crimson sunset, silhouettes of twisted trees, and what looks like crosses in the thickets. The symbols resemble sheriff’s archive cards: bottles, hats, money bags, skulls, and bullets.
Each bonus is styled differently. The Great Train Robbery places us on the back platform of a train rushing through a graveyard. The atmosphere is more cinematic but still oppressive. Duel at Dawn keeps the crimson palette, but when VS symbols land, full-reel duels play out. Dead Man’s Hand changes the palette entirely — dark green background, eerie silence, and reels covered with skull cards. Each mode feels like a separate short film with growing tension.
🎶 Sound
In the base game, the music is relatively calm with a light rhythm — like a train rumbling in the distance, but not yet arrived. Sometimes the soundtrack shifts into a more dynamic Western beat, while wins are accompanied only by delicate coin sounds — no harshness, no pomp.
- The Great Train Robbery: A tense theme kicks in right away, with the train sound taking the lead, while the melody presses and pushes forward. Everything here serves immersion — it feels like you’re really standing on the platform of a moving train.
- Duel at Dawn: The buildup to a duel. The soundtrack plays like a movie scene: rhythmic, restrained, with a sense of impending shootout. The music doesn’t just play — it counts down the steps to the shot.
- Dead Man’s Hand: Starts in absolute silence. Only wind and faint muffled whispers, unsettling. As the phase progresses, a strange tune fades in: deliberately cheerful yet underlined with dread. It’s an odd, destabilising combination — as if the game is taunting before the final spin.

Special Symbols
- Wild. Substitutes all symbols except bonus and VS. Five wilds pay x20.
- Duel Scatter. Triggers the Duel at Dawn bonus.
- VS Symbol. Appears in the base game and Duel at Dawn bonus. In the bonus, if part of a winning combo, it expands across the reel with a multiplier and becomes a wild. Possible multipliers: x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x20, x25, x50, x100. If multiple VS appear, their multipliers add up and then apply to the win. If VS lands on all five reels, the entire grid turns into one giant wild.
- Train Robbery Scatter. Triggers The Great Train Robbery mode.
- Dead Scatter. Triggers Dead Man’s Hand bonus.
- Collector Symbols (Wild & Multiplier). Appear only in Dead Man’s Hand during the Collect phase. They don’t form wins, but add to counters.
- Skull Cards. Appear in Dead Man’s Hand during the Collect phase as blanks — they give no wilds or multipliers.
Bonus Game
- The Great Train Robbery. Triggered by 3+ Train Robbery scatters. Awards 10 free spins with sticky wilds that lock in place until the end of the feature.
- Duel at Dawn. Triggered by 3+ Duel scatters. Awards 10 free spins with an increased chance of VS symbols. When VS lands in a win, it expands across the reel, triggers a duel between two bandits with different multipliers, and the winning multiplier applies, turning the reel into a wild.
- Dead Man’s Hand. Triggered by 3+ Dead scatters. Split into two parts: the Collect phase and the final Showdown. At the start, the reels are filled with skull cards. Only wild and multiplier symbols can land, filling separate counters: up to 20 wilds and up to x31 multiplier. After each successful spin, the respin counter resets to 3. Three dead spins end the phase. In the Showdown, the collected wilds drop onto random reel positions, and the player gets 3 spins with all wins multiplied by the accumulated multiplier.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
Wanted Dead or a Wild offers multiple RTP profiles: 96.38%, 94.55%, 92.33%, and 88.42% — depending on the casino. The maximum win is x12500. Overall volatility is 4 out of 5, but differs by bonus:
- The Great Train Robbery — Medium
- Duel at Dawn — Very High
- Dead Man’s Hand — High
Our Verdict
In the base game, wins come steadily — about once every 4–5 spins, but usually small, with wilds doing most of the lifting. If the slot goes into a dry spell (10+ dead spins), it almost always follows with a bigger payout. VS symbols in the base game are rare, especially in useful spots. After 200 spins, no bonus triggered — scatters appeared, but almost always solo.
Bonus buys are exactly as expected — lotteries on different scales. The Great Train Robbery didn’t profit in three purchases: sticky wilds appeared, but without early reels covered, chances were low. Duel at Dawn failed twice when VS came too late, but one round made up for it: VS on reels 2, 3, and 4 with high multipliers paid over x2000. Dead Man’s Hand was the most nerve-wracking — out of several tries, only one had a solid multiplier and 8 wilds, but poor reel placement ruined it.
This slot will appeal to those who seek unusual bonuses and can stomach the swings. If you enjoy outlaw stories and duels, the atmosphere is spot-on. But if predictability or grind-friendly play is important, this one will be tough. If you want something similar in spirit:
- Dead or Alive 2 Feature Buy от NetEnt — also cowboy-themed with multiple bonuses, simpler visuals, and a calmer pace.
- Tombstone R.I.P от Nolimit City — nastier, dirtier, and with more complex mechanics, but packed with wilds.
