The Count: Design and Theme

🖼️ Graphics

Visually, The Count is a caricature horror slot in the style of old black-and-white cartoons. The grid is framed by stone columns and castle staircases, torches burn in the corners, and on both sides of the reels, two characters “chat”: a vampire in a cape and a top-hatted skeleton rattling its bones. The background is almost entirely monochrome, with colour reserved for what matters: scarlet streams of blood, purple bats and yellow flashes of wins.

The symbols keep that balance between comic-book style and graveyard props: you’ll see wooden stakes, coffins, graves, skulls and a jittery raven in a top hat, while the low positions are filled by faded 10–A. During free spins, the grid gradually “comes alive” — bloody wilds stretch into full columns and bat multipliers light up. The transition from base game to bonus does not feel like a hard screen change, but like the same hall slowly heating up.

🎶 Sound

The music nods to classic Dracula themes: calm and slightly ironic, in the spirit of old horror films where the organ and strings wink more than they scare. In the background, you hear bone clicks, cape flaps and soft reel sounds — nothing harsh, but it constantly reminds you that you’re in a castle rather than a generic video slot.

When free spins and big multipliers kick in, the soundtrack speeds up noticeably: heavier drums come in, win effects get louder, and you can tell from the audio alone that the spin was a chunky one even before you see the final x-multiplier on the screen.

Special Symbols

To understand how The Count plays, it’s enough to grasp the “blood + bats” combo and the role of the scatter. Everything else is just variations on multipliers, expanding wilds and a rare epic symbol.

  • Scatter (FS logo): only triggers the bonus rounds.
  • Blood symbol (cup of blood): when it lands, it checks whether expanding is beneficial. If yes, it turns into a Bloody Wild and stretches downward along the reel. This column works as a standard wild for any symbols on a payline, and sometimes it also reveals an additional multiplier up to x500. Multiple expanded Bloody Wilds with multipliers add their values together and apply a combined multiplier to the win.
  • Bat wild: substitutes for any regular symbols and comes with its own multiplier from a set up to x500. If two or more bats contribute to the same win, their multipliers are added together first and only then applied to the payline win. A line of five bat wilds pays as the top symbol — x5 of the bet.
  • Epic wild (large bat): also a wild with a multiplier up to x500, but with a different behaviour. When it appears, it not only multiplies its own win but also spreads its value to all Bloody Wilds and regular wilds on the screen. As a result, the entire set of wilds on the grid receives the same high multiplier, which is then summed and applied to wins. Only one epic wild can land per spin, which makes sense — otherwise the castle would need repairs after every bonus.

FS, regular bats and epic bats cannot land in the same vertical reel position on top of a blood symbol — blood appears first, and only then are wilds and multipliers resolved.

Bonus Game

The Count has three free spins bonus modes, each with its own level of multiplier madness and its own approach to low-paying symbols.

Bat to the Bone

  • Three scatters trigger 10 free spins with an increased chance of landing regular Wilds.
  • The reel mechanics remain the same as in the base game, but multiplier bats appear much more often, and this is where you first start to feel that x100+ on a single spin is not pure fantasy.
  • The minimum multiplier for winning combinations in this mode is x2 if enhancing symbols are involved.
  • Retrigger scatters add spins: 2 FS give +2 spins, 3 FS give +4.

Rest in Pieces

  • Four scatters trigger 10 free spins with a progress meter.
  • Five vertical meters appear next to the reels for the low symbols 10–A.
  • Each time one of these card symbols contributes to a win, its meter fills by one segment.
  • When a meter reaches five segments, on the next spin that low symbol is completely removed from the grid and replaced for the rest of the bonus by a multiplier bat wild. The longer the round lasts, the more low cards turn into wilds and the denser the grid becomes.
  • Retrigger scatters work the same way: 2 scatters in a spin add +2 free spins, 3 scatters add +4.
  • The minimum multiplier for winning combinations involving enhancing symbols is x2.

Hidden Epic Bonus — Count on Blood

  • Five scatters trigger a hidden epic round with 10 free spins.
  • Here the Rest in Pieces meter runs alongside an enhanced set of special symbols: every spin guarantees a minimum of five Wild Bat symbols, and the chance of seeing an epic wild with a big multiplier is noticeably higher than in the other modes.
  • Retrigger scatters work as usual: 2 scatters in one spin give +2 free spins, 3 scatters give +4.

RTP, Volatility, Max Win

RTP — 96.36%. Volatility is high. The maximum win is capped at x12,500 of the bet.

Our Verdict

The Count feels like a typical Hacksaw title: visually simple, even toy-like, but in practice, it can stay silent for a long time and then suddenly drop some very nasty wild combinations. The base game is fairly tolerable thanks to expanding Bloody Wilds and bat multipliers, but the main emotions still come from free spins — especially Rest in Pieces, where the grid gradually turns into a carpet of wilds, and the rare Count on Blood with guaranteed bat swarms and a chance for an epic wild.

That said, this is not a slot for relaxed spinning. Volatility is high, bonuses may refuse to show up for a while, and feature purchases are expensive. If you prefer simple maths and a steady rhythm, The Count can feel too jumpy: either long dry stretches or several spins in a row packed with insane multipliers.

It should appeal to players who enjoy aggressive, bonus-driven games with a strong visual identity and are not bothered by the fact that the rarest mode might not appear at all in a session. If you want an even more involved combat-like system after an evening in the castle, Kill Em All is the more logical switch — monsters, weapons, chests and bosses, with the whole round built around slowly stacking damage and chasing a big payout. And if you want something more classic with progression and symbol collection, try Bigger Bass Bonanza, a fishing slot with collect mechanics and multiplier levels in free spins.
