Army of Ares: Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
Army of Ares looks like a scene from a comic book about ancient warfare: on the left, a line of warriors with spears in helmets and crimson cloaks; on the right, Ares himself against a grim sky. The grid seems embedded in a stone wall, with cracks in the tiles creating the impression that the reels are held up by nothing but sheer willpower and the battle cry. In the base game, the background is muted, with a haze and faint torchlight reflections, but in the bonuses, everything ignites in flames, the sky turns red, and the city behind the god of war burns.
The symbols support the military theme: the lower symbols are stylised 10–A, resembling scratches on stone, while the higher-value symbols turn the reels into a display of weaponry — spiked shields, tridents, banners, and a warhorse. The most valuable symbols are the warrior emblem and the red fighter with a spear, highlighted by a warm laurel halo.
🎶 Sound
The soundtrack is built around a majestic, martial melody with strong percussion — like the march of an army just descending from the Acropolis. In the background, emotional vocal snippets echo: Ares and his soldiers shout battle cries when multipliers build up, and the line reaches a big win. The base game has more subdued music, which helps avoid fatigue during long sessions, but when the bonus rounds kick in, the pace noticeably quickens, with sharper accents and the roar of the crowd.

Special Symbols
To better understand how to play Army of Ares, it’s important to focus on the rare special symbols, as they drive most of the gameplay and interact with the paylines, while regular payouts are mostly secondary.
- Wild: Replaces any symbol in the paytable, helping to complete lines, and pays x10 for a combination of five on an active line.
- Scatter (FS Letters): Appears in the base game, doesn’t pay on its own, and is needed to trigger one of three bonus modes, depending on the number of symbols on the screen.
- Wrath Symbol (Red Ares Mask): Expands across the entire reel, turning it into a Wrath Reel with a multiplier, and can add up to five additional wilds. These symbols are used both for gameplay in the base game and to trigger bonus free spins. FS and Wrath cannot land on the same reel in the same spin.
- Dead Symbol (Skull on a Spear): Does not pay, does not turn into a wild, and simply occupies space on the grid.
- Green Disk (Dark Green Stone Circle): Adds its value to the multiplier of the reel it lands on: x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x25, x50, or x100.
- Epic Green Disk (Large Glowing Disk in a Golden Frame): Adds its value to all multipliers above the reels. Possible values are: x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x25, x50, or x100.
- Red Disk (Fiery Stone Circle with an X): Multiplies the current multiplier above the reel it lands on. Possible multipliers: x2, x3, x4, x5, x10.
- Epic Red Disk (Golden Glowing Disk with an X): Multiplies all the multipliers above the reels on the grid. Possible multipliers are: x2, x3, x4, x5, x10.
- Battle Horse (Battle Horse in a Helmet): Collects above the reel and, at the end of the bonus, reveals its own multiplier, further strengthening the multiplier of that reel. Possible values: x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50.
Bonus Game
Army of Ares features three bonus modes — classic free spins with enhanced wilds and two life battle modes with reel multipliers.
Fear and Flame
- Three scatters trigger 10 free spins.
- Wilds added with the Wrath Reel always have a multiplier.
- Possible values for these Wild Multipliers range from x2 to x100; if multiple wilds and/or Wrath Reels are involved in one win, their multipliers stack and are then applied to the payout.
- No additional scatters will land during this mode.
Wrath and Ruin
- Four scatters unlock the bonus with three lives displayed on a separate counter.
- Reel Multipliers above the reels start at x1.
- Green and Red disks, along with the Battle Horse, gradually increase the values and update the life counter.
- If three consecutive empty spins occur, lives are lost.
- All multipliers above the reels are combined and multiplied by the current stake, forming the final win.
Hidden Epic Bonus — Ares Ascends
- Five scatters trigger an epic mode, using the same rules as Wrath and Ruin, but immediately giving a filled grid of multiplier disks and one Battle Horse.
- At the end, after the lives are played, all Reel Multipliers are summed up and multiplied by the current stake, turning this phase into a pure calculation of accumulated multipliers.
- This bonus can only be accessed from the game itself and cannot be bought.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
RTP — 96.26%. Volatility is high (4/5). The maximum win is capped at x15,000 of the bet.
Our Verdict
Army of Ares is an aggressive slot that immediately shows its character: the base game maintains tension with rare but powerful Wrath Reels, while everything truly unfolds in the bonus rounds with reel multipliers.
Wrath and Ruin and Ares Ascends feel more like a counter of accumulated multipliers than traditional free spins, so much of the session becomes waiting for one good run, rather than a chain of steady payouts.
During demo testing, bonuses might not appear for dozens of spins, but once the mode with the disks and Battle Horse is triggered, the session’s result immediately swings to the extremes. This slot is clearly designed for those who are interested in the risk for rare, high-impact runs, rather than a calm gameplay experience.
For those who prefer Greek themes with more straightforward mechanics, Eye of Medusa is worth a look — a slot where Medusa gathers petrified symbols and strengthens lines locally, without complex reel multipliers. For thunderous hammers, coin respins, and four bonus modes, Stormborn is a logical choice, as it focuses on a series of different free spins rather than one long, cumulative round.
