Design and Theme

🖼️ Graphics

Buffalo King Megaways looks like a slot that genuinely tries to capture the spirit of the American prairie. The background shows rocky hills under a purple sky, with the grid framed in wood. In the base game, reddish, brown, and golden tones dominate, while the bonus switches everything to a night-time blue-violet palette.

The symbols are large and clear. Animals are drawn almost realistically: buffalo with a stern look, majestic eagles, cougars, wolves, and elk — each with its own colored frame. When winning, the wolf snarls, the buffalo “runs” in animation, and standard symbols bounce slightly. Triggering the bonus is accompanied by a stampede — impressive, even if the free spins that follow end up empty.

🎶 Sound

In Buffalo King Megaways, sound is more about movement than grandeur. The background tune in the base game is light, almost cartoonish, with a sense of adventurous naivety. Each win sounds like completing a quest: as if a progress bar just filled. Animal symbols have their own sounds — the wolf growls, the buffalo stomps and bellows. Scatters and wilds always arrive with a noisy cue, even if they lead to nothing.

Before the bonus, a loud, drawn-out chime plays — and honestly, it’s more distracting than epic. The bonus round itself sounds livelier: the music grows fuller, more dynamic — like watching a wildlife documentary, where everything is moving and anything can happen.

Special Symbols

  • Wild (Canyon). Substitutes all regular symbols except scatter. Appears only on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5. In free spins, wilds get a random multiplier — x2, x3, or x5. If multiple wilds appear in one cascade, their multipliers are multiplied together.
  • Scatter (Gold Coin). Triggers free spins and pays anywhere:
    • 4 — x5,
    • 5 — x20,
    • 6 — x100.

Bonus Game

The bonus in Buffalo King Megaways triggers when scatters land. Depending on how many BONUS symbols appear, you receive a fixed number of free spins:

  • 4 scatters = 12 free spins
  • 5 scatters = 17 free spins
  • 6 scatters = 22 free spins

The main feature — multipliers on wilds. Their values multiply with each other and add to the current chain win, applied to the entire payout for that cascade. If no win occurs, the multiplier is wasted.

After each cascade, the multiplier resets, and the next set of wilds builds up again. That’s how free spins can suddenly “explode”, even after a slow start.

Extra spins are possible: 3+ scatters during the bonus add +5 free spins, and retriggers are unlimited.

It may sound simple, but to fully understand how the bonus mechanics work, it’s worth taking time to play Buffalo King Megaways free and explore everything in practice without risking any money.

RTP, Volatility, Max Win

The RTP of Buffalo King Megaways is 96.52%. Volatility is high. The maximum win is capped at x5000 the bet: once the limit is hit, the bonus ends immediately.

Our Verdict

Buffalo King Megaways has nice visuals, but under the hood it’s not the most generous math model. Base wins are rare — roughly once every 7–10 spins — and usually small, even with cascades. The balance drains slowly but steadily. Scatters often appear, but usually just one per spin — the “tease” effect of Megaways is especially noticeable: three of the same symbol might show up, but starting from reel 2 or 3 — and it’s a miss.

Without Ante Bet, no bonus landed in 200+ spins. With double chance active, more scatters and wins appeared — maybe a coincidence. After ~90 spins, free spins were finally triggered. The first multipliers were x2/x3, payouts were small, and of course, buffalo filled every reel except the first. The last spin saved the run: x90 — and the whole downswing was wiped out.

The purchased bonus performed better: it paid back 2x on the first spin, nearly broke even on the next two. No retriggers, but even without them, bonus rounds looked more reliable than the base game, which just slowly bleeds balance.

If you’d like a different take on wilds, The Dog House offers a bonus with sticky wilds. Another strong Megaways slot is Gonzo’s Quest Megaways, with free spins, progressive multipliers, and the Earthquake feature that clears base symbols.
