Shah Mat: Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
On the screen — gilded horses on both sides of a portal, inside — a chessboard with pieces and suits on dark velvet. In the base game, “super symbols” appear as large tiles: the king, queen, rook and company cover half the scene and pleasantly break the cluster grid. In the bonus, the visual style stays the same, but due to the constantly growing multiplier, everything starts flashing more often: shield-wilds flare up and merge into one large emblem, multiplier numbers jump across half the screen — it feels like the board has been flipped and an attack has begun.
🎶 Sound
At the core of Shah Mat is a majestic melody with orchestral accents. Wins come with a distinct metallic slice, as if the pieces are clashing. When wilds merge, and the multiplier increases, the music rises by half a tone, with bright strikes added — the sound design clearly signals key events without overwhelming the ears.

Special Symbols
To understand how to play Shah Mat, keep a simple logic in mind: clusters generate wins, and shields amplify them — especially in the bonus.
- Wild (shield with W): substitutes for any paying symbols. After participating in a win, it stays on the grid. Two or more adjacent wilds merge into a single shield, and their multipliers add up to a cap of x20. The multiplier applies only to the cluster that includes this wild.
- Scatter (green emblem): required to trigger free spins. It doesn’t pay on its own.
- Super Symbols (large blocks): all high-value symbols can land as 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 tiles, covering multiple cells at once and speeding up cluster formation.
Bonus Game
In the bonus, everything revolves around collecting spins and building up the global multiplier. You start with a fixed package, then add spins and boost the multiplier through wild merging.
- 3 scatters = 12 free spins.
- Each additional scatter on the trigger: +3 FS, up to a maximum of 21 starting spins.
- Each scatter during the bonus: +1 FS.
In free spins, wild merging no longer gives a local shield multiplier — instead, it increases the global win multiplier up to x20. This global multiplier applies to any winning cluster until the end of the bonus.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
RTP — 95.79%. Volatility is high. The maximum win is capped at x4,324 of the stake.
Our Verdict
The chess theme here isn’t for decoration — it sets the tempo: large pieces cover half the grid, clusters burst in series, and shield-wilds turn into a hefty multiplier at the right moment. The base game can feel sparse at times, but the bonus keeps tension high with the growing global multiplier and frequent spin additions.
If you want a similar game with giant blocks and wilds, try Sky Bounty — its wild can grow up to 6x6. And if you prefer Pay Anywhere mechanics and hunting multipliers up to x1000 — Gates of Olympus 1000.
