In just a few races Oscar Piastri has let a huge advantage slip and handed the lead to his teammate. Yet Las Vegas will test him not only against the in-form Lando Norris but also against a fired-up Max Verstappen, who looks like he has nothing left to lose.

Right now, only a DNF or a serious mechanical issue in one or two races can derail Norris in the title run-in. Even then, Piastri will need to win every race, not just finish on the podium.

Bookmakers clearly sense that the pressure and emotional tilt from recent setbacks have weighed heavily on the young Australian. Instead of staging a dramatic reset, he may simply run out of steam by the end of the year, leaving the door wide open for his teammate to take the crown.

As for Max Verstappen, his title hopes are already over. A 49-point deficit to the leader leaves him needing something extraordinary — essentially a couple of double DNFs for both McLaren drivers, and even then he would still need to win every race.

Ferrari, meanwhile, have completely sabotaged their season. The double DNF has shattered both drivers’ chances of catching George Russell and left the constructors’ picture badly damaged.

Time to congratulate Lando on the title?

Some will call this headline premature, but consider Oscar’s trajectory: from Azerbaijan onwards he has not reached the podium once. Norris, on the other hand, has not stepped off it.

The issue isn’t only the setup differences or the questionable tactical calls. Yes, Zak Brown, Andrea Stella and the McLaren hierarchy have clearly thrown their weight behind the lead driver and will not hesitate to keep Oscar in check if needed.

But once the racing begins, the gap in pace, aggression and wheel-to-wheel craft is obvious. You can blame the setup, and we would have agreed — until it became clear just how much Piastri’s confidence has dipped and how many race-craft nuances he still needs to master.

There is no doubt Oscar is a phenomenal talent. It is entirely possible that Las Vegas finally gives him the reset he needs to get back into the top three. But expecting the 2025 title fight to contain any real intrigue at this stage simply feels unrealistic.

Las Vegas Grand Prix History

This is Formula 1’s youngest event, first held only in 2023.

Max Verstappen won the inaugural race, while George Russell stood on the top step in 2024. Given the current chemistry between them, that piece of history looks even more intriguing now.

To extend the circuit, organisers even had to purchase a massive parking lot for hundreds of millions of dollars — an investment that seems to be paying off judging by the surge in fan interest.

Las Vegas Grand Prix Prediction

After Verstappen’s sensational charge from the paddock to the front in the last race, backing him for another victory looks extremely tempting. However, bookmakers also offer lower-priced options for a simple podium finish.

His pace spike came after a late engine change in Brazil. That bold call not only put the team back on the podium but should also give them an edge over rivals running far more worn power units.

As for the Norris-Piastri duel, expect Lando to remain slightly ahead across the weekend, while Oscar will likely spend most of his time fending off George Russell.

Speaking of George — despite being far more consistent than both Ferrari drivers and his own teammate, he is increasingly viewed as an overly emotional driver.

His constant complaints and frustration with strategy are becoming a running joke for commentators and are starting to irritate even his most loyal fans.

In contrast, the young and fearless Andrea Kimi Antonelli is increasingly overshadowing him, especially after his last Grand Prix outing.

Las Vegas Grand Prix Schedule and Weather Forecast
