Norris breaks Hamilton's McLaren points record

British driver Lando Norris has become McLaren's new all-time top scorer.

This past weekend, the United States Grand Prix took place in Austin, where Norris finished the main race in fourth place, earning 18 points. This achievement brought the 24-year-old's career total to 930 points — all scored with McLaren.

Lando Norris surpassed his compatriot Lewis Hamilton's record, who had accumulated 913 points for the British team. Notably, at the 2024 US Grand Prix, the 39-year-old Hamilton, currently racing for Mercedes, retired after spinning out on the third lap.

Norris is in his sixth season with McLaren, which is the same number of seasons Hamilton raced for the team. However, during Hamilton's first three seasons from 2007 to 2009, only ten points were awarded for a Formula 1 race win, unlike the 25 points available now.

In the current season, Lando Norris is in second place in the drivers' standings with 297 points. The Briton trails the leader, Max Verstappen from Red Bull, by 57 points, while Lewis Hamilton sits in sixth place with 177 points.
