The Washington Capitals secured their first victory of the new NHL season by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in a regular season game.

Washington's goals came from Jakub Vrána (7th minute), Tom Wilson (24th minute), Alexei Protas (26th minute), and Jakob Chychrun (27th minute). Vegas responded with goals from Victor Olofsson (18th minute) and Jack Eichel (28th minute).

Russian captain Alexander Ovechkin assisted two of Washington’s goals, bringing his total assists in regular NHL seasons to 700. He became only the second Capitals player to reach this milestone. Ivan Barbashev of the Golden Knights also recorded an assist.

This victory marks Washington's first win of the season, placing them in 12th position in the Eastern Conference with two points. Previously, they lost their season opener to the New Jersey Devils 3-5. Vegas currently holds fourth place in the Western Conference with six points.

The Capitals’ next game is against the Dallas Stars on October 18, while the Golden Knights will face the Tampa Bay Lightning the same day.
