1990 World Cup Best Player Schillaci Passes Away

On Wednesday, 18 September, former Italy international forward Salvatore 'Toto' Schillaci passed away in a hospital in Palermo.

He was 59 years old. The ex-footballer had been in the hospital for ten days, according to Palermo Today. In 2022, Schillaci was diagnosed with colon cancer and had undergone two surgeries since then.

Throughout his football career, Schillaci played for teams such as Juventus, Inter Milan, Messina, and Jubilo Iwata. He scored seven goals in 16 appearances for the Italian national team, six of which came during the 1990 World Cup, where he was the tournament's top scorer and best player.
