Alpine academy graduate becomes race driver for main team

Formula 1 team Alpine has announced the signing of driver Jack Doohan.

The 21-year-old Australian has secured a deal with the French team for the upcoming season. Doohan will partner Pierre Gasly, taking the place of Esteban Ocon, who will continue his career at Haas.

Doohan is the first driver to graduate from the Alpine Academy to become a race driver for the French team in Formula 1. Jack is the son of five-time MotoGP champion in the 500cc class, Mick Doohan. Last season, the young Australian finished third in the overall standings of Formula 2, accumulating 168 points. Frenchman Théo Pourchaire claimed the championship with 203 points.

Currently, Alpine sits eighth in the Constructors' Championship for the 2024 Formula 1 season, having earned 11 points. Red Bull leads the standings with a total of 408 points.
