Brighton signs forward from Championship for record £40 million

Brighton & Hove Albion has made the most expensive signing in the club's history.

The Seagulls announced the arrival of forward Georginio Rutter from Leeds United. The Championship club confirmed that Brighton activated the release clause in the 22-year-old's contract. According to the BBC, the Peacocks received £40 million for their player, making Rutter the most costly acquisition in Brighton's history.

The French forward has signed a contract with Brighton that runs until June 2029.

In January 2023, Leeds set their own transfer record by signing Rutter from Hoffenheim for €41 million. The forward made 66 appearances for the Peacocks, scoring eight goals and providing 18 assists.

Transfermarkt currently values the player at €18 million.
