"Hi, Fatty." Messi pays tribute to Suarez on his international retirement

Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has recorded a message for striker Luis Suarez following his retirement from the Uruguay national team.

On the night of September 7th, Suarez played his final match for the national side, completing 90 minutes against Paraguay (0-0) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. After the game, a video message from Messi was displayed on the screen at the "Centenario" stadium in Montevideo.

"Hi, Godro [Fatty]. I just wanted to send this video on such a special day for you, your family, the people of Uruguay, and football fans in general. You have always given your best and sacrificed everything for your national team and country. I’ve been lucky to be close to you, and I know how hard it was to make this decision because I know how much playing for Uruguay meant to you. You deserved the tribute you received today.

You leave behind a great legacy for the people today and future generations. This marks the end of a very important chapter in your career, but hopefully, there are many more years of football ahead for you. I'm happy we can play together in the same team once again and enjoy each day. Big hugs, love you very much," Messi's words were quoted by Marca.

Luis Suarez announced his retirement from the Uruguay national team on September 3rd. The forward made his debut for the national team in 2007, earning 142 caps, scoring 69 goals, and providing 39 assists. In 2011, Suarez helped Uruguay win the Copa America.
