Inter Miami exits League Cup in round of 16 without Messi

Columbus Crew secured a resilient 3-2 victory over Inter Miami in the Round of 16 of the North American League Cup. The match took place at Lower.com Field in Columbus.

The visitors saw goals from Matías Rojas (10th minute) and Diego Gomez (62'), the latter assisted by Luis Suárez. Columbus responded with a goal from Cristian Ramírez (67') and a brace from Diego Rossi (69', 80').

Inter's midfielder Sergio Busquets and defender Jordi Alba were both included in the starting lineup and played the full 90 minutes, but neither was able to contribute to the scoresheet. Forward Lionel Messi was absent from the squad as he continues to recover from an ankle injury sustained in the Copa America final.

In the quarter-finals, Columbus will face New York City FC, with the match scheduled for August 18.

Last season, Inter Miami lifted the League Cup, marking the first trophy in the club's history.
