Jones and Miocic to face off at UFC 309

UFC Heavyweight Champion and top pound-for-pound fighter Jon Jones is set to defend his title against former champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. The announcement was made by UFC President Dana White.

The event will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 25.

"In the main event of UFC 309, the undefeated heavyweight champion, the greatest of all time, and number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world Jon Jones will face former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. Two of the baddest dudes in the world, facing off in the baddest division in combat sports to determine who is the greatest heavyweight," White said in a video posted on his social media platforms.

Jon Jones captured the UFC heavyweight title in March 2023 by submitting Ciryl Gane, marking his return after a three-year hiatus. The 37-year-old fighter has a career record of 27 wins, one loss due to disqualification, and one no-contest.

Stipe Miocic became the UFC heavyweight champion in 2016 and successfully defended the belt three times. In 2018, he lost the title to fellow American Daniel Cormier but regained it in their immediate rematch and later won the trilogy. Miocic lost the title again in March 2021 via knockout to Francis Ngannou. The 42-year-old American boasts a record of 20 wins and four losses in mixed martial arts.
