Manchester United appoints former New York Knicks executive as performance director

Manchester United has signed a contract with Sam Erith, the former sporting director of NBA's New York Knicks.

According to The Athletic, the agreement with the Red Devils is set to run until the end of the season. Erith will take on the role of interim Performance Director, starting his duties on Monday.

Erith's responsibilities will include creating top-tier working conditions for players and the coaching staff by overseeing the coordination of various football departments. These include the sports science department, nutrition department, medical team, and analytics service.

Sam Erith is regarded as one of the leading specialists in football operations. He previously headed the sports science department at Tottenham Hotspur, worked for 11 years in a similar role at Manchester City, and collaborated with the England national team. In 2022, Erith moved to the United States, where he worked with the NHL's New York Rangers and the NBA's New York Knicks. Last season, the Knicks achieved 50 victories in 82 regular-season games and reached the Eastern Conference semifinals in the NBA playoffs.

Currently, Manchester United sits 14th in the Premier League table, having secured three points in the first three matches.
