Matthäus Identifies Bayern Munich's Main Issue at the Start of the New Season

Former Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder Lothar Matthäus has identified the main issue facing the Munich club in the new season.

"Defence has always been and remains Bayern’s Achilles heel. After the club let Matthijs de Ligt go, the management started searching once again for a successor to David Alaba. For me, this is an indictment of the absence of a leader. A leader must have a clear understanding of themselves and must be recognized by the team," Matthäus told Sky Sport Germany.

The Reds have kicked off the new season with two victories over Ulm 1846 (4-0) and Wolfsburg (3-2). In the next round of the Bundesliga, Bayern will face Freiburg on September 1st.
