Ovechkin's double gave Washington a win over the Rangers
Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers with a score of 5:3 in the regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL). The meeting was held at the Capital One Arena in Washington.
Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin scored a double (3', 5'), Connor McMichael (8'), Alexei Protas (24') and Nick Dowd (59') also scored.
Will Kailly (4'), Chris Kreider (20') and Philip Hietil (24') scored for the visitors. Russian forward Artemi Panarin finished the game with a -1 rating. Goaltender Igor Shestyorkin had 41 saves.
At the end of the meeting, the Capitals with 12 points are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, while the Rangers with 13 points are in third place.
In the next match Washington will face Montreal on November 1, New York will play Ottawa a day later.
