Real Madrid defender Mendy to miss Nations League matches due to injury

Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy will miss the upcoming Nations League matches for the French national team due to an injury.

According to the press office of the French Football Federation (FFF), the 29-year-old full-back sustained a calf injury during the fourth round of La Liga against Real Betis, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Real Madrid. As a result, national team head coach Didier Deschamps has excluded Mendy from the squad and called up Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne in his place.

France will play two home matches in Group A2 of the Nations League. Les Bleus will face Italy on September 6 and Belgium on September 9. The group also includes the Israel national team.

Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid in 2019. This season, the defender has made four appearances for the club without recording any goals or assists.
