Russian driver Kvyat was unable to compete in the Super Formula due to anti-Russian sanctions

Russian driver Daniil Kvyat, a former Formula 1 pilot, has been in negotiations with TGM Grand Prix in Japan's Super Formula series. However, according to team principal Katsuhiko Ikeda, he has been unable to compete due to anti-Russian sanctions.

Ikeda explained that the team cannot hire Kvyat because of these restrictions. Even if the driver were to obtain a visa and enter Japan, he would not be able to work or receive a salary from the team. Consequently, the team cannot pay him directly. Ikeda also noted that Kvyat feels there is no point in traveling to Japan if he cannot be compensated, which has become the most significant challenge. Ikeda requested that Kvyat discuss the situation with his sponsors, but he believes the obstacles are simply too great.

Kvyat's last season as a race driver in Formula 1 was with AlphaTauri in 2020. In 2021, he served as a reserve driver for the French team Alpine but did not secure a race seat.
