Adam Williams presents his prediction for the UFC Fight Night 244 fight.
Chidi Njokuani
Chidi will target his opponent with numerous body kicks, including middle and front kicks, to keep Jared at a distance. He'll strike with quick crosses and won't hesitate to blend in devastating low kicks. If Gooden gets too close, he'll be caught in a clinch where Njokuani will unleash knee strikes to the head. Primarily, Chidi will work with boxing combos from mid-range and will launch a powerful high kick when Jared drops his hands again. Njokuani is prepared for a stand-up fight and will not easily be taken to the canvas. Against the cage, he'll use side elbow strikes.
Jared Gooden
Gooden will throw long jabs and fire low kicks. He’ll also try to counter the wide kicks of his opponent with a knockout overhand punch. Gooden will provoke Njokuani and then charge into attack with hooks. He’ll aim to quickly break free from clinches and throw uppercuts or shoot for a double-leg takedown. After a deceptive move, Jared will pursue a takedown. On the ground, he’ll seek a back take and unleash ground-and-pound strikes on Chidi. If Njokuani defends successfully on the ground, Gooden will switch to maintaining a tight control.
Betting Odds
Bookmakers favour Chidi, who is technically superior in the stand-up game and won't easily be taken to the ground. The odds for Njokuani’s victory are 3/5.
Jared is one of the slower fighters in the league, making him a natural underdog against such an agile striker. A bet on Gooden's victory is available at odds of 27/20.
Chidi Njokuani vs Jared Gooden Prediction
Chidi is much faster and more technical than Jared, and he also has a reach advantage, making stand-up success likely for him. Gooden has enough power in his punch for a knockout win, but it's doubtful he'll catch his opponent with a big shot. Jared will focus on wrestling, but taking Chidi down, and especially holding him there, is a tough task. Our favourite is Njokuani, who will likely be able to avoid takedowns and outstrike his opponent. Moreover, based on his last fight, the American has improved his stand-up defence and footwork.
