Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the US Open match.
Victoria Azarenka
Azarenka has reached the final of the US Open three times and holds a positive win-loss record in the third round (7-6). Victoria may no longer be at the top-10 level, but she still delivers consistent performances against mid-tier opponents. This season, she has reached at least the quarter-finals seven times, including in two North American tournaments.
Wang Yafan
Wang Yafan seized a rare opportunity to participate in the third round of a Grand Slam tournament. Her first-round match against Maria Sakkari ended with her opponent’s retirement, and in the next match, the Chinese player defeated the world number 60, Diane Parry (6:0, 6:4). Such success stands out from her usual trend: Wang hadn't won more than one main draw match from the Miami tournament in March until Cleveland about a week and a half ago.
Viktoria Azarenka - Wang Yafan Prediction
Azarenka defeated Wang in Washington on August 1. There, she comfortably covered the 4.5 game handicap (6:1, 6:7, 6:3). Since then, the competitive landscape hasn't changed much, even from the bookmakers' perspective: the odds remain roughly the same. If Victoria isn’t troubled by health issues, she should confidently advance.
