Musk vs Zuckerberg - Bets and odds for the fight

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg will hold a charity MMA fight against Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Tentatively, their fight can take place as early as 2023. 

We look at some of the potential bets, the likely odds, as well as bringing you an exclusive prediction for the Musk — Zuckerberg fight.

Fight origins

It was Elon who initiated the fight. It was prompted by the news that Zuckerberg plans to launch a new competitor to Twitter. Musk accused Zuckerberg of hypocrisy after creating a monopoly of social networks, controlled only by him alone. After this Musk left the tweet: 

"I'm willing to fight in a cage if he's ready for it."

To which Mark Zuckerberg replied: 

"Name the place."

If you don’t know, this is a direct reference to Khabib’s famous phrase, which he said after Conor McGregor attacked a bus with fighters in 2018, where Nurmagomedov was. 

It did not take long for Elon to reply with a location: "Octagon in Vegas." After this, there was no surprise when the head of the UFC, Dana White wasted no time in contacting the “fighters”. And while we don't have a competitive fight date yet, White admitted that both of them are as serious as it is possible to be: 

Musk vs Zuckerberg: Betting Odds 

According to foreign bookmakers, Mark Zuckerberg is the unequivocal favorite of the future meeting. This can be put down to the level of his physical fitness, the publicly available footage of him training, as well as his recent impressive performances at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. Zuckerberg's victory is being priced up with tentative odds of 1.20 (1/5). 

Elon Musk, on the other hand can politely be described as not having such an amazing physical form (photos from his vacation confirm this). The 51-year-old businessman is clearly not in the best condition for an MMA fight and the current odds for him to win are around 4 (3/1). 

Statistics and physical data*

Both can be described as senior aged athletes. Mark Zuckerberg is the younger of the pair at “only” 39 where as Elon Musk is already 51 years old, which is a noticeable difference. It is true that at least the difference in height will give Elon some physical advantage and will help him somewhat.

We don't know much about Musk's fighting skills. Unlike his colleague, he does not indulge us (and bookmakers) with records from his workouts. 

UFC President Dana White assures that Elon really trains according to the rules of MMA, and also has a youthful fighting background. While living in South Africa, he often had to participate in street fights. True, whether he emerged victorious from them, we will never know. Nevertheless, the businessman's relatives accepted the news of the upcoming fight with skepticism. So, the billionaire's mother said that she forbade him to go into the octagon, and suggested that both should have a "verbal duel." But it is unlikely that Elon will listen to her this time.

What will he do in a fight with Zuckerberg? Most likely, he will try to use his advantage in weight. Will often close in to clinch the opponent and prevent him from landing punches in the standing position. But if Musk falls to the ground, the fight will end pretty quickly, especially given the new wrestling skills on the mat of his opponent.

At the same time, there is a suspicion that Mark will still adhere to the grappling game plan. He does not hide the fact that he likes control on the ground and the “blanket” style, during which the wrestler is in a position on top, immobilizing the opponent and completely controlling his actions. 

Musk vs Zuckerberg: Prediction for the fight

One gets the impression that the outcome of this battle is a foregone conclusion in the eyes of many. A much younger, fitter, faster, and more technical Mark Zuckerberg will do everything to end the fight as quickly as possible to cement Facebook's victory over Twitter. 

Jokes aside, I won't be surprised by a rise in the shares of one company after the fight, depending on the outcome of the battle. 

In any case, on paper, the 51-year-old billionaire has no obvious chance of winning. Unless, by some miracle, he can knock out his opponent with a lucky strike. As you understand, the probability of such an outcome is extremely small. 

So this time, I'll bet that the sudden jiu-jitsu fighter and founder of Facebook will win the duel. 

My bet and prediction is Zuckerberg's victory.
