Dead or Alive 2: Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
Dead or Alive 2 sets the tone immediately — a cowboy town at sunset. Building facades are sun-bleached, the horizon glows with orange dust, and the sun tints the symbols with a soft golden light. The entire interface looks carved from wood and metal: the bet panel resembles a wooden signboard, and the buttons look like forged hardware.
The bonus rounds completely change the background. One takes you into a saloon with dark purple upholstery and old photographs on the walls; another into a train carriage lit by glowing brass boilers and pipes. The atmosphere becomes more intimate, but the interface remains the same — just slightly dimmed to keep the focus on the reels.
The wild symbols are bandits, drawn in a style between comic and realism, each with a distinctive expression. The scatter stands out the most: a metal skull with revolvers — almost like a rock band emblem, but in a cowboy setting.
🎶 Sound
The audio is more sound design than music. Each spin clicks like the rotation of a revolver cylinder — dry and metallic. A series of wins forms a short “western jingle”: hard to call it music, but it definitely sticks in the memory.
A standout detail is the interactivity. Payline plaques sway when you hover over them, and decorative elements like a bottle or lantern can be “shot” with a click. These effects don’t influence gameplay, but they make the slot feel alive — as if it’s reacting to the player.

Winning Combinations
Dead or Alive 2 has nine paylines. The stake is formed simply: the Level multiplies the number of coins, and the Coin Value determines the price of each coin. The slot calculates the final cash amount automatically and displays it beneath the reels.
NetEnt presents all payout values in coins, but we’ve already converted them into multipliers of the total stake — far more user-friendly. Just multiply your stake by the coefficient to get the payout. We’ve rounded the numbers to two decimal places, so in the actual game, there may be a tiny difference of a cent or so. Before playing Dead or Alive 2, make sure to study the tables below carefully.

Special Symbols
- Wild — five different cowboys can appear on any reel. They substitute for all symbols except the scatter and always try to complete the most profitable line. The wild also has its own payouts: 3 wilds award x2.78, 4 wilds award x16.67, and a full line of 5 cowboys pays x166.67.
- Scatter — a pair of revolvers on a skull backdrop. It appears only in the base game and pays regardless of paylines: 2 scatters award x2, 3 give x4, 4 pay x25, and 5 explode into x2500 of the stake.
Bonus Game
Free spins begin when three or more scatters land. The player immediately receives 12 free spins and must choose one of three modes. All of them play on the same 5×3 grid, but with different rules:
- Old Saloon — the classic variant. All wins are automatically doubled (x2). Wilds become sticky and remain for the entire round. If you manage to land at least one wild on each of the five reels, you’re awarded an extra +5 free spins.
- High Noon Saloon — the most “explosive” option. Wilds are sticky here too, but two wilds on the same reel turn into an x2 multiplier, and three into x3. These multipliers stack multiplicatively, so a combination of x2 and x3 becomes x6. Filling all reels with sticky wilds also adds +5 additional spins.
- Train Heist — the softer option. Every wild increases the multiplier by +1 and gives one extra spin. If the multiplier reaches x16, you’re awarded +5 more spins.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
Dead or Alive 2 has a stated RTP of 96.8%. Volatility is high. The slot can spin for dozens of rounds without a meaningful win, then suddenly “fire” with a chain of sticky wilds in the bonus. This is one of those games where patience matters.
The maximum potential is massive: up to x111,111 the stake. In practice, this is only achievable in extremely rare scenarios with wilds and stacked multipliers in the bonus modes. If the slot reaches this limit, the feature ends immediately and the win is capped.
Our Verdict
Dead or Alive 2 feels like a straight-shooting cowboy: it hits rarely, but when it does, it hits hard. In the base game, wins drop roughly every 3–4 spins, so the balance holds even if the bonus refuses to appear. Scatters help too — two revolvers pay on their own, and such drops happen often enough. But landing three scatters within a hundred spins didn’t happen for us — the slot clearly isn’t in a hurry to give out free spins.
Of the three bonus modes:
- Train Heist steadily drops wilds and increases the multiplier, but even with x9 and a pile of extra spins, the end result can still be below the cost of entry.
- Old Saloon depends entirely on where the sticky wilds land. Filling four reels is realistic, but five is almost mythical.
- High Noon Saloon is a lottery. We once caught x2 and x3 wilds on the last reels and the bonus paid back more than enough, but in most attempts the multipliers never triggered at all.
Overall, the slot demands patience and a willingness to play long-distance. Who will enjoy it: players who love the chase for sticky wilds and aren’t afraid of long dry spells. Who should skip it: anyone expecting quick bonuses and predictable payouts.
If you want to stay in the same western setting but with a different tempo, try Dead or Alive 2 Feature Buy (the same game, but with paid bonus entry). And if you crave an even harsher western, take a look at Tombstone R.I.P by Nolimit City.
