Last season, Petrocub Hincesti came close to completing a domestic double. Makharadze's team pulled six points clear of Sheriff Tiraspol in the title race, but lost to the same opponent in the Moldovan Cup semi-finals (1:2). The Hincesti club changed only slightly in the summer: two departures from the squad were offset by four newcomers, among whom the experienced goalkeeper Avram stands out.
Petrocub Hincesti made a bright start to the Moldovan league, taking two wins from the opening rounds with an aggregate score of 6:1. On the other hand, the recent rout of Milsami Orhei (5:0) says little, as there is a gap in class even at the level of a relatively modest national championship. Makharadze's staff use a 4-3-3 system with plenty of vertical passing, an approach that brought success last season.
Things are far more complicated for Egnatia Rrogozhine. The weekend before last, the Albanian champions played their only friendly of the new pre-season, beating Botosani (3:1). Everything came together for Dede's team at the end of the championship: the coach arrived in early May and led the club to a run of three wins, with only one goal conceded in those matches. It is clear that the dark greens will continue to rely on a compact block, especially as they begin their European campaign away from home without strong physical condition.
Egnatia Rrogozhine have the stronger squad on paper, with their group worth slightly more than Petrocub Hincesti's (7.3 million euros against 5.9). The team from Tirana will certainly have chances in the return match, but for now their main task is to leave Moldova unbeaten. The Albanian champions are capable of doing that, so we are backing the visitors' double chance.
