In the first game the Hungarians really surprised everyone and flew back from the Netherlands with a 2:1 win. Playing on the front foot away from home is an unusual task for many sides, but that is exactly what Twente will have to do.
The main nightmare for the Dutch in Enschede was powerful centre‑forward Lenny Joseph. They simply could not contain him: he bullied defenders, won a heap of duels and eventually smashed in his goal. It is obvious that Ferencvaros will again place maximum emphasis on the Haitian in the return leg. The Budapest side play in a simple, brazen manner: use the flanks, low crosses, high balls into the box. Because of this kind of football, Ferencvaros have seen Over totals land in each of their last four Europa League matches.
But the visitors have plenty to answer with. Twente will travel needing to come back, and up front they will be launching balls at Wout Weghorst. He is a genuinely towering presence who wins everything in the air and attacks every cross. The Dutch are not reinventing the wheel either, slinging balls in from the wings towards their giant or firing low crosses for the second wave. Plus Twente’s defence is far from rock solid, so in their last five games Over has landed regularly as well (in four of them).
All in all, we are in for a spectacle with loads of crosses and chances. Taking the Budapest side to win is risky — they might sit back to protect their lead or freeze on the night. But the goals here almost pick themselves. In three of their last four European away trips, the Dutch have not just scored, they have done so at least twice. They have also conceded in every one. It should be a proper end‑to‑end battle, so we will not reinvent the wheel and will back goals.
