The first leg in Norway ended in Midtjylland’s favour (3:1), leaving them close to reaching the play-off round, where they will face the winner of Rigas Futbola Skola v KuPS. Fredrikstad’s chances of progressing to the next Europa League qualifying round are slim.
Midtjylland
In Norway, Midtjylland controlled the game from the outset, scoring through Franculino Djú, Mikel Gogorza and Denil Castillo. Earlier, the team edged past Hibernian only in extra time (3:2 on aggregate). Since 2020, they have reached the final stage of European competition in four of the last five seasons. Their Superliga start has been modest — one win and three draws — suggesting Midtjylland have prioritised Europe.
Fredrikstad
Fredrikstad are back in continental action for the first time since 2009 thanks to their Norwegian Cup triumph. They currently sit seventh in the Eliteserien, but form has been patchy — seven defeats in 13 matches. In the first leg the team managed a goal but were poor defensively. The trip to Herning is a major test, especially with their current struggles.
Midtjylland vs Fredrikstad Prediction
Midtjylland hold a strong advantage and a clear gap in quality. Fredrikstad will have to open up, giving the hosts space for fast breaks. The Danes regularly score at least twice at home, while the visitors often collapse under sustained pressure. Another comfortable win for the hosts looks likely — backing Midtjylland to cover the -1.5 handicap.
