FC Twente's squad is valued at twice as much as Ferencvaros's, while their chances of a home win are three times higher. On top of that, they are unbeaten in European competition for three matches now (two wins and a draw).
FC Twente have strengthened noticeably ahead of Europe: the headline move was the signing of Borne-born Wout Weghorst, who joined from Ajax Amsterdam on a free transfer. The Reds already have plenty of creativity in their attacking line — Kristian Hlynsson's through balls and active flank play will provide lone striker Weghorst with enough chances. Backed by the stands at De Grolsch Veste, the hosts will clearly try to seize the initiative from the first minutes.
In this qualifying campaign, Ferencvaros have already got past one opponent, Vojvodina (2:1, 3:0), but these clubs are not comparable. The Budapest side failed to become champions even in their own country. There are no major absences. The only regular central midfielder to leave was Mohammed Abu Fani, along with right midfielder Cebrail Makreckis. The visitors will attack through Gabi Kanichowsky, who is their key figure (8+5 in all competitions). However, away from home against a pressing opponent, it will be difficult for the Hungarian runners-up to keep the ball and contain the opposition's attacks.
The hosts are superior to their opponents in most areas. The visitors are still bedding in a renewed midfield, while FC Twente traditionally play very aggressively on their own pitch. The favourites' pressure from the first minutes should make the difference, so we should expect the Dutch side to win with something to spare.
