The Wolves, as expected, were the first to be relegated from the Premier League. Edwards’ team have not picked up any points for three rounds in a row, and since 6 March they have suffered four defeats in five matches (there was also a draw). Despite their transformation in February and early spring, Wolverhampton never came close to having a realistic chance of survival, and now the sides around the relegation zone are picking up points more actively. Wolverhampton have plenty of problems in attack: after 34 rounds they have scored 24 goals — the second-worst attack in the Premier League, while Burnley have scored 10 more. Against Tottenham last weekend the Wolves played solidly (1:2 for shots on target) but collapsed at the end, conceding from a set piece.
Sunderland, meanwhile, completely collapsed last week, losing to Nottingham (0:5), which is uncharacteristic for Le Bris’ team. Before the last two rounds the Black Cats had conceded only 36 goals — only Manchester City (28) and Arsenal (24) had a better defence over that period. It is obvious that Sunderland will work on their mistakes — it is important for the promoted side to end the season in style.
Bet on the Match
In the first half of the season Sunderland comfortably dealt with Wolverhampton at the Stadium of Light (2:0), allowing only 0.83 xGA. The Black Cats led throughout after an early goal from Mukiele — now they should again be capable of keeping control. In general, Le Bris’ team are within touching distance of the European places (three points behind the top seven), so the motivation remains, which means we can back the reliable Draw No Bet option.
Prediction: Sunderland Draw No Bet
Alternative Bet
Sunderland and Wolverhampton have been among the lowest-scoring teams all season (15 and 16 Over 2.5 goals wins respectively). In the first half of the season they created only two clear scoring chances between them, and at Molineux the uninspired hosts are likely to be passive in attack. Under will be a good choice on the line.
Prediction: Under 2.5 goals
