Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Kempton Coral Silviniaco Conti Chase (Grade 2, 2m4½f, 5yo+) horse racing event.
Pic D'Orhy is set for his second outing this season following a triumph in the 1965 Chase (Grade 2) on the 23rd of November. Last season, his performance dipped in the Melling Chase at Aintree, but this is his second start since undergoing wind surgery, and he stands out in this field with an official rating of 161. Bookmakers at bet365 are offering odds of 1/2, making him the clear favourite.
Martator raced just two weeks ago, finishing third in the Desert Orchid Handicap Chase at Kempton, where he entered as the favourite. Earlier this season, he claimed victory in both his starts at Ascot. Having raced and won over 2m 4f, he is expected to be the main challenger to Pic D'Orhy.
Hitman has not secured a win since November 2022 but boasts an official rating of 156lb. He did not run at Cheltenham on 1st January due to unsuitable ground conditions, having previously finished second in the Old Roan at Aintree. With favourable conditions, he could deliver a strong performance.
Heltenham has not had the best start to the season, with two starts where he finished more than 20 lengths behind the winners. His last wins came in handicaps back in March of last year.
Unexpected Party, a stablemate of Heltenham and representing Dan Skelton, came close to victory in the Graduation Chase at Carlisle. However, he finished last in both races before and after that. Despite winning the Grand Annual Challenge Cup Handicap Chase at Cheltenham last season, expectations are lower for him at present.
Annsam also had two unsuccessful starts this season, both over hurdles. While he has experience winning chases, these were lower grade handicaps.
