Adam Williams presents his prediction for the English Premiership rugby match.
This is the second most significant match of the round after the clash between Leicester Tigers and Bristol Bears. Northampton Saints may currently be eighth, but as the reigning champions, and Saracens are perennial title contenders. This fixture has been one of the Premier League's most intense rivalries since the 2010s.
Saracens
Saracens unexpectedly lost in Round 7 to Newcastle Falcons (12:17), but that setback occurred away from home. Beating them at StoneX Stadium is nearly impossible. In six matches this season, the only exception was Leicester Tigers, who triumphed 32:29. Only the Tigers genuinely controlled the game in northwest London (leading for 63 minutes). Can the Saints replicate this?
Northampton Saints
Winning in general, yes—they have five victories in their last six matches. But winning against tough opponents away? Their last significant away victory was against the Vodacom Bulls (30:21). Northampton Saints travelled to another continent, yet showed no signs of jetlag, even in the final 10 minutes, with the winning and bonus try scored in the 77th minute by Tommy Freeman. The club and England winger scored a double in the second round of the Champions Cup. Northampton Saints were second best in most metrics against the Bulls but succeeded where it mattered—in the final result.
Saracens vs Northampton Saints Prediction
Saracens may have the upper hand over the Saints, but might struggle to secure the result. Northampton Saints' last away victory over Saracens (18:12) after three consecutive defeats highlights the champions' threat, regardless of their league position. It would be wise to back at least a narrow defeat for them.
