Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Espanyol find themselves in the relegation zone and are in desperate need of points to halt their losing streak. The visitors, on the other hand, are on the upswing after three good encounters in La Liga, including an impressive draw with Barcelona.
Espanyol
Espanyol have lost their last four La Liga matches, plagued by one of the league’s weakest defences, conceding an average of two goals per game. Over 13 games this season, the Catalan side have managed just one clean sheet. Their attack is equally waning, averaging 0.9 goals. Despite their current struggles, Espanyol traditionally perform well against Celta Vigo on home turf, with only 2 losses in 12 encounters, and scoring in 10 of those matches.
Celta Vigo
Celta Vigo, on the other hand, have been on an upward trajectory, going three matches unbeaten. They secured high-scoring draws against formidable opponents, Real Betis (2:2) and Barcelona (2:2). Offensively, Celta have outshone their upcoming adversaries, averaging 1.57 goals per match. However, their defence leaves much to be desired, allowing 1.71 goals per game. Away from home, the team have only managed one win in six games. Nonetheless, these fixtures have consistently featured plenty of goals, with at least three goals in five of those six matches.
Espanyol vs Celta Vigo Prediction
Considering both clubs' defensive frailties and Celta's strong attacking form, the match is set to be a high-scoring affair. Additionally, past encounters between the sides have often seen both teams finding the back of the net, so our bet is on both teams to score.
