Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Bristol City
In the second round at Ashton Gate, it was a high-scoring game. The hosts, along with Millwall, scored a total of seven goals, Bristol City won (4:3). The team had a mixed performance. They had a strong start, leading 2:0 by the 13th minute, but failed between the 51st and 64th minutes, conceding three goals, including the one scored from the penalty spot. However, they managed to win. Bristol City’s xG was 2.74, noticeably higher than Milwall's 2.22. It took only 11 shots (6 on target) to win.
Coventry City
Last Friday, Coventry was expected to dominate Oxford United at home, but they only narrowly defeated the newcomer (3:2), with the winning goal coming in the sixth minute of added time, thanks to a horrible defensive error by the visitors. Oxford scored two goals from three shots on target, highlighting Coventry’s poor finishing. Coventry took 26 shots (10 on target) and had 2.95 xG. In the first round away against Stoke City (0:1), their performance was quite different: they took seven shots, with only one on target, and their xG was just 0.74.
Bristol City - Coventry City Prediction
In only 5 out of 23 matches last season, Bristol City conceded more than one goal per game at their home stadium. On the other hand, Coventry ranked seventh in the overall away table for the 2023/24 season and remained unbeaten in 13 matches. Among the games they lost was one against Bristol City (0:1).
