Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Scottish League Cup match.
Is there really no faith in Aberdeen? The odds on them to win are at about 9/1, and you can bet on a draw at about 5/1. Have people already forgotten that just two weeks ago they drew?
Celtic
The draw was quite the spectacle (2:2). Aberdeen clawed back from a 0:2 deficit at half-time with limited chances (8 shots, 4 on target, 1.16 xG). Since then, they dropped more points, this time in the Champions League against Atalanta (0:0). The match in Bergamo marked the first game of the season where Celtic failed to score. In that match, they looked similar to Aberdeen in attack: only 0.26 xG and 4 (2) shots. Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s clean sheet streak has reached 300 minutes following victories over Motherwell (3:0) and Dundee (2:0).
Aberdeen
Following their now-classic rivalry with Celtic, Aberdeen also managed to avoid losses in the league. Their game against Dundee United was more restrained, with Aberdeen netting the lone winner in the 84th minute. The home encounter with Rangers was more crucial and open, with both teams actively exchanging shots (20-16). The hosts were more accurate (6-3), sealing the game with a 2:1 victory. Rangers slipped further behind, but Aberdeen face their penultimate match in their title chase, seeking their first in 10 years.
Celtic vs Aberdeen Prediction
Of course, a Celtic victory seems more likely, but we don't believe it's a foregone conclusion. Aberdeen are in as good form as the hosts and will put up a fight. The visitors won't lose by more than one goal.
