Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
Unlike Hellas Verona, who are edging closer to the relegation zone, Empoli’s league position remains relatively stable. Recently, they triumphed over Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia (3:2 after a penalty shootout), further showcasing their ability to handle top opponents with a deep defensive block.
Hellas Verona
As for Hellas Verona, they were eliminated from the Coppa Italia earlier in the campaign after a defeat by Serie B side Cesena (1:2). Following the October international break, they suffered six defeats in seven league matches, with their latest games against Fiorentina (1:3), Inter Milan, and Cagliari (0:1) being completely lacklustre. Hellas Verona have the league's weakest defence by a wide margin, both in advanced stats (28.71 xGA) and actual goals conceded (33).
Empoli
Empoli’s setback on Saturday against AC Milan at San Siro (0:3) allowed them to regroup. By Wednesday, they held their own against Fiorentina in attack (3-7 on shots on target) and missed only one penalty by William Troost-Ekong in the shootout. Clearly, Empoli will take a more defensive approach on Hellas Verona’s turf, preferring to counter-attack from a back three (18.84 xGA - ninth-best in Serie A).
Hellas Verona vs Empoli Prediction
Hellas Verona have been extremely erratic — a more stable competitor would capitalise on their shaky situation. We find a double chance on Empoli to be a very appealing bet.
