Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Hull City continue to struggle with their winless run, yet they are persistently backed at home, with the belief that they can overcome seventh-placed Watford. But do they have the strength to pull off this miracle?
Hull City
Hull City are not much different from 18th-placed Preston North End: the same three victories, the same goal difference of (-10), and roughly one goal per game, but they trail by four points due to missed draws. Another foreign manager has been brought in to lift the club from 24th place. German Tim Walter has been replaced by Spanish manager Rubén Sellés, appointed on 6 December. Unlike his predecessor, the 41-year-old understands the intricacies of the English league, having coached Southampton and managed Reading until 5 December, leaving them in sixth place in League One.
Watford
Watford missed their game last weekend due to extreme weather in Cardiff, leading the match against Cardiff City side to be postponed for a more favourable period. The last time they played was on 30 November, resulting in nothing more than a draw against Queens Park Rangers (0:0). This marked their fourth low-scoring encounter out of their last five matches.
Hull City vs Watford Prediction
Hull City have not been losing heavily; they have simply stopped scoring—just two goals in their last six defeats. No one else has endured a worse run. So what are people and bookmakers hoping for? A new manager bounce? We're hesitant to suggest a victory for the hosts and instead opt for a total under 2.5, given that Hull City have had eight low-scoring games in this dreadful 10-match winless streak.
