Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the French Super Cup match.
Two and a half weeks after their last encounter, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco face off again, this time to contest the French Super Cup. In their recent Ligue 1 clash at Monaco's ground, PSG emerged victorious with a 4:2 scoreline, though the match was characterised by mutual defensive errors that opened up the game.
Paris Saint-Germain
PSG's victory over Lens (2:1 after penalties) in the Coupe de France marked their fourth consecutive win, with the total over 2.5 occurring in three of those matches, and they remain unbeaten domestically. Paris Saint-Germain lead Ligue 1 convincingly in xG (49.35) and goals scored (44), and their win against Monaco extended their lead over rivals to 10 points. Likely for their debut 2025 fixture, Matvey Safonov will start for the capital club as Gianluigi Donnarumma continues to recover from injury.
AS Monaco
Since the November international break, Monaco have suffered four losses in eight matches—three or more goals were scored in six of those games. At home against PSG, they made an impressive start to the second half with two goals and created more xG than their opponents over 90 minutes (1.98–1.76). Even without the injured Folarin Balogun, Monaco remain highly dangerous in attack, boasting the second-best xG in Ligue 1 (33.11).
Paris Saint-Germain vs AS Monaco Prediction
Since the start of 2023, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco have exceeded over 2.5 goals in three out of their four meetings. It's evident that these two giants of French football will once again push forward with full force and deliver a thrilling, high-scoring affair.
