Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Strasbourg's impressive run of form has kept their unbeaten streak alive despite a demanding fixture schedule — the team remains well-positioned in the race for a Champions League spot. Saint-Étienne, meanwhile, are still battling to avoid relegation after a derby victory over Olympique Lyonnais (2:1), with both sides heading into the final stretch of the season with plenty at stake.
Strasbourg
The goalless draw against AS Monaco last Saturday marked Strasbourg's tenth straight Ligue 1 match without defeat — a run that began in early February after their French Cup elimination to Angers (1:3). Unlike many of their top-flight counterparts, the team has had little trouble finding the back of the net this season, scoring 48 goals — the sixth-highest total in the league — from 47.10 xG. They have also recorded three consecutive home matches with Total Over 2.5 goals.
Saint-Étienne
Over their last 180 minutes of Ligue 1 action, Saint-Étienne have scored five goals, doing so against strong opposition in Stade Brestois 29 (3:3) and Olympique Lyonnais (2:1). In the Rhône derby, the team registered a higher xG than their opponents (1.60 vs 0.75) and managed 18 shots by the final whistle. However, their away form remains a major concern — with 41 goals conceded in 15 away fixtures, they hold the league’s worst defensive record on the road.
Strasbourg vs Saint-Étienne Prediction
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Strasbourg came away empty-handed on their visit to Saint-Étienne (0:2). While the favourites come into this one in excellent form, the visitors are equally desperate to secure points. A wide-open contest with plenty of goal-scoring chances is anticipated.
