Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Women's Champions League match.
The highlight of the Women's Champions League matchday will be the clash between Wolfsburg and Olympique Lyon, both eager to secure a spot in the playoffs of the European competition. Lyon easily accomplished their mission in the first leg, thrashing Galatasaray (3:0) at home, while Wolfsburg suffered a setback, losing to AS Roma (0:1).
Wolfsburg (Women)
So far this season, Wolfsburg have encountered serious challenges, resulting in three losses from 11 matches, each time falling to a strong opponent. Late last September, they failed to challenge Eintracht Frankfurt (0:3) and against AS Roma in Rome, they could not find a decisive finish (23 shots and 5 on target in 90 minutes). Wolfsburg deserve credit for their weekend victory over Bayern Munich (2:0), but they heavily benefited from the opponent's poor form.
Olympique Lyon (Women)
The Champions League runners-up are steamrolling their adversaries this season. Including friendlies, Lyon have clinched eight wins from eight appearances, scoring a combined total of 36 goals. At home against Galatasaray, they dominated with an extraordinary attacking display (47-3 in shots), with their offensive trio threatening with every push into the opponents' penalty area. The coaching staff aims to preserve this attacking style.
Wolfsburg (Women) vs Olympique Lyon (Women) Prediction
Since May 2018, Wolfsburg have suffered four consecutive defeats to Lyon Olympique. The trip to Germany should not pose severe challenges to Lyon, who are understandably favoured by the bookmakers.
