Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Champions League match
In the last round of Champions League qualifying, Midtjylland and Slovan Bratislava beat opponents of roughly their own calibre, but the upcoming match gives the edge to the Danish club. They have started the new campaign strongly and are on the verge of returning to Europe’s premier club competition.
Midtjylland
Over the past month, Midtjylland have secured six wins in nine games (alongside three draws), confidently kicking off their national league as well. In the Danish league, the team have conceded just four goals in five games — a record matched only by Copenhagen. Away against Ferencváros, the Danish side held onto a two-goal advantage, taking 13 shots in 90 minutes (finishing 1:1). It is likely that Midtjylland will once again use the forward duo of Djú Franculino and Adam Buksa, who continually create chances.
Slovan
Slovan Bratislava's performance at the start of the campaign is also impressive (seven wins in nine games), but they have faced noticeably lower competition. Bratislava barely managed to get past APOEL last week, allowing 19 shots on their goal in Cyprus (0-0). Additionally, in the return leg, the team had only 32% possession — statistics that won’t hold up in Denmark.
Midtjylland - Slovan Prediction
Midtjylland has a significant advantage in squad market value (€58.7 million versus €20.6 million). Away from home, Slovan will struggle even to secure a draw — their opponent is better prepared for the Champions League.
