PSV Eindhoven, the undisputed 2025/26 Eredivisie champions, will host Villarreal, who finished in the top three in La Liga, at the Philips Stadion. The Spanish club now have a new head coach.
PSV Eindhoven
In last season’s Eredivisie, PSV Eindhoven broke the 100-goal mark (101) for the third campaign in a row. The open style of the league contributes to this, but they have also been very productive in Europe. In the main phase of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, six of their eight matches went over 2.5 goals, and four also went over 3.5. The board have already sold one of the key organisers of that attacking output, Ismael Saibari, to Bayern Munich, but the club have a well-established conveyor belt for producing such goalscorers.
Villarreal
Over two and a half seasons, Iñigo Pérez built an interesting football project at Rayo Vallecano, but this summer he moved to the Mediterranean coast to take charge of Villarreal, who will once again play in the UEFA Champions League. We should therefore expect the team to apply intense pressure all over the pitch. At the start of pre-season, however, they are not yet in peak condition, so this approach will not always work. There will still be plenty of vertical attacks, which should mean goals. Villarreal were already the best side in La Liga at converting their potential, outperforming their xG by +4.29 goals.
PSV Eindhoven vs Villarreal Prediction
With such attacking instincts, it is entirely natural to see the classic over 2.5 goals line priced below 1.40. That is backed up by the 2022 friendly, which ended 2:1 in Villarreal’s favour. So tomorrow evening we could well see four goals scored.
