Former Monaco player Ben Yedder arrested for second time this year on rape charges
Former AS Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder has been arrested for the second time this year on rape charges.
According to L'Equipe, the 34-year-old was detained by police in the early hours of Saturday, September 7, in the Alpes-Maritimes region. The arrest followed a complaint from a woman born in 2001. The French striker faced charges including sexual assault while intoxicated, public disorder, and driving under the influence.
The prosecution demanded that Ben Yedder be remanded in custody, but the court allowed him to remain free under strict judicial supervision. The former Monaco player is prohibited from leaving the Alpes-Maritimes, must observe a curfew from 20:00 to 06:00, and is barred from visiting bars and nightclubs or contacting the victim.
In August 2023, two women aged 19 and 20 accused Ben Yedder and his brother of coercing them into sexual acts. The Nice prosecutor's office charged the footballer and his relative with "rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault," subsequently releasing them on bail set at €900,000. The investigation into that case is still ongoing.
Wissam Ben Yedder left Monaco this past summer as his contract expired. He had been with the club since 2019, making 201 appearances, scoring 118 goals, and providing 34 assists.
