Ovechkin achieves unique 21st century milestone in NHL history

Washington Capitals' Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin has achieved a unique milestone in the NHL for players aged 39 and older. In the game against Columbus, the Capitals' captain recorded two assists and scored a goal.

This marks the second consecutive NHL game this season in which Ovechkin has registered three or more points. In the previous match against Montreal, Alexander also scored a goal and provided two assists.

Ovechkin has become the first player aged 39 or older in the 21st century to earn three points in consecutive games. Only three others in league history have accomplished this feat: Jean Ratelle (two games in the 1979/80 and 1980/81 seasons), Gordie Howe (two games in the 1968/69 season), and Tim Horton (two games in the 1968/69 season). Ovechkin is now 35 goals shy of Wayne Gretzky's record.
