Red Star midfielder on Barcelona defeat: "In the end, we scored more goals against them than Real Madrid did"

Timmy Elšnik, the midfielder for Red Star Belgrade, offered a wry remark following their Champions League loss to Barcelona.

The Belgrade club was defeated 5-2 by the Catalans at home in the fourth match of the league stage. Previously, Barcelona had routed Real Madrid 4-0 in a Spanish league encounter.

"It's a pleasure to play against Barcelona. When you start playing football, you always aspire to compete against the best," Elšnik stated.

"Barcelona is my favorite club, and this was a wonderful moment for me. They are one of the best clubs in the world and will remain at the top for the next five to ten years because their players are still young."

"I think we put up a good fight. In the end, we scored more goals against them than Real Madrid did, but we conceded too many," Elšnik told Mondo.

Red Star currently sits 35th in the Champions League standings, failing to earn any points. Meanwhile, Barcelona is in sixth place with nine points.

In the next round, Belgrade will host Stuttgart, with the match scheduled for 27th November.
