Betfred started life in 1967 as a single land-based bookmaker, and has since grown into a betting empire, with over 1,000 betting shops and more than 800,000 active online customers. As with Bet365, Betfred have a minimum deposit amount of £5, but they boast an even wider range of accepted payment methods including (but not limited to) debit card, Skrill, Neteller, PayPal and PaySafeCard, making online betting accessible for everyone at Betfred.

When considering Bet365 vs Betfred, Betfred has a slightly more generous welcome offer for new customers. Both offer 24/7 Live Chat and email support, but Betfred also allows customers to contact them via telephone. Both have a good selection of in-play betting markets and some events are available to watch live (Bet365 are definitely superior in this aspect, with a far wider selection of live video streams available to their customers). However, you will need to ensure that you have a positive account balance at both bookmakers in order to take advantage of this feature.

While Betfred do not have quite as many different sports available to bet on in their sportsbook as Bet365, they do give them a run for their money when it comes to promotions, with an impressive number of offers available to existing customers, especially for those who are horse racing enthusiasts. Both bookmakers offer their customers a smartphone app which is free to download for both iOS and Android, and the account registration process is similarly straightforward and hassle-free for both. Placing a bet at both Bet365 and Betfred is incredibly easy and intuitive, although both websites are similarly uninspiring in terms of their design. However, they both do the job well and there are no frustrating glitches to contend with. When it comes to the odds available, Bet365 offers better value than Betfred in terms of in-play odds and a far higher number of Bet Boosts or enhanced odds to give punters more bang for their buck. Both bookies have a bet builder feature available, but Bet 365’s Bet Builder is far superior in terms of the range of selections and functionality when compared to the #PickYourPunt feature at Betfred.

The cash out process at both Bet365 and Betfred is good, with both offering reasonable minimum withdrawal amounts and processing them quickly, usually within 24 hours and often in a matter of minutes, in the case of Betfred. However, we have found that both betting sites can be quick to limit their customers’ accounts, which is less appealing.

To summarise, features of Betfred include:

  • Generous welcome offer

  • 24/7 Live Chat Support

  • Very wide range of different payment options

  • Low minimum deposit (£5)

  • Live streaming

  • Great  range of promotional offers

  • #PickYourPunt bet builder feature

  • Virtual sports

Star Sports

#ad / New UK/IE customers only. Sign up and place your first sports bet at odds of Evens (2.0) or greater and if it loses, get a free bet equivalent to 50% of your first bet stake (min £10), to a maximum value of £25, plus 25 free spins on Gold Horsey Winner. Full T&Cs apply. 18+ | BeGambleAware.org

Another alternative to Bet365 is Star Sports. Founded in 1991, they have 18 betting shops located around the UK, as well as their online presence. Star Sports have even lower deposit and withdrawal minimums than Bet 365, with customers only needing to deposit as little as £1 to use their services. However, payment methods are limited to debit card and bank transfer.

Unlike Bet365’s generous welcome offer, Star Sports do not currently have a new customer promotion available, although they do provide punters with some opportunities to win the occasional Free bet. They boast exceptionally speedy customer service via Live Chat, but it is not available 24/7. There are plenty of in-play markets available at Star Sports, but their in-play offering is not as comprehensive as Bet365’s, with live streaming only available for horse racing.

The number of sports available to bet on at Star Sports is limited when compared to Bet365’s vast offering of markets, but there are still 25 different sports in their sportsbook. Star Sports has its own app available for free on both iOS and Android, which is simple and straightforward to use. Placing a bet is an intuitive process and like Bet365, Star Sports has a Build-A-Bet bet builder feature available, as well as various promotions on specific events or sports. With regard to odds, Star Sports provide average value, although there do not appear to be any enhanced odds on offer there.

The cash out process at Star Sports is a little slower than at Bet365, with the bookmaker aiming to complete all withdrawals within five working days. This is likely due to the payment options being limited to debit card and bank transfer, which generally take longer to process than other payment methods.

To summarise, features of Star Sports include:

  • Minimum deposit and withdrawal of just £1

  • Efficient customer support

  • Live streaming of horse racing

  • App for iOS and Android

  • Build-A-Bet bet builder feature

William Hill

#ad / 18+. Play Safe. From 00:01 on 18.10.2022. £30 bonus. New customers only. Minimum £10 stake on odds of 1/2 (1.5) or greater on sportsbook (excluding Virtual markets). Full T&Cs apply. www.begambleaware.org

William Hill is also quite similar to Bet365 in that it has a generous ‘Bet & Get’ welcome bonus for new customers. William Hill is also a very well-established bookmaker in the UK, being founded in 1934 and with over 1,400 bettings shops on the high street and more than two million online users.

William Hill accept a reasonable selection of different payment methods, including bank transfer, debit cards and PayPal. The minimum deposit via debit card is just £5, while deposits via bank transfer or PayPal need to be at least £10.

William Hill have a superb range of different betting markets available; they are almost guaranteed to have a market available for any event you would wish to wager on. To give a more accurate idea of the scale we are talking about here, there are generally at least 600 different bet selections available for each Premier League football match. While the website can be a little confusing to navigate at times, placing a bet is straightforward once you have found your desired selection. Like Bet365, William Hill has a bet builder feature for some sports (branded as Build #YourOdds).

When it comes to live betting, William Hill have lots of in-play markets available for punters to enjoy. Most live events have high quality, rapidly changing graphics displayed alongside game statistics, to allow bettors to follow the action closely. Some in-play events also have live video streams, which are free to watch for active customers who are logged in to their account.

Virtual sports fans can also enjoy William Hill’s ‘Virtual World’, which includes virtual horse racing, greyhound racing, football and motor sports, all of which boast impressive quality graphics and new events to bet on every two to three minutes.

Withdrawals at William Hill are processed efficiently, with minimum withdrawal amounts matching the deposit method’s minimum deposit value (with the exception of bank transfers, which require a minimum £25 cash out). The customer support at Will Hill is comprehensive and efficient, and the bookmaker also provide a very good mobile app for Android and iOS users.

As well as their generous welcome bonus, William Hill have a great selection of different promotions (found via their promotions tab) including enhanced odds, customer-specific bet boosts and other promotions across a range of sports. They even offer regular no deposit Free spins in their casino to customers who visit the site daily.

In summary, features of William Hill include:

  • Generous welcome bonus

  • Minimum deposit of £5

  • Great choice of betting markets

  • Build #YourOdds bet builder feature

  • Good range of promotions

  • Responsive customer service

  • Free live streaming of some in-play events

  • High quality virtual sports betting

Copy Bet

#ad. Full T&Cs apply. New UK customers only. The qualifying bet should be either a single or multiple bet, start at £10, and have 1.9 or greater odds. 5 Free bets include: 1 x £10 Free bet on horse racing, 1 x £10 Free bet on football, 2 x 10 Free bet in-play, 1 x £10 Free bet Acca. Max payout – £500. 7 day expiry. 18+ only. BeGambleAware.org.

The two things that Bet365 and Copy Bet most have in common with each other are their ‘Bet and Get’ welcome bonuses and their good range of accepted payment methods - beyond that, the similarities are pretty few and far between.

However, Copy Bet do deserve a mention here on the strength of the aforementioned welcome bonus; new customers receive five £10 Free bets when they bet £10, which is even more generous that Bet365’s new user offer.

The payment methods that Copy Bet accept include debit cards, Skrill and Neteller, with all payment methods requiring a minimum deposit of £10.

Copy Bet have a good range of 35 different sports to bet on (Bet365 pip them on this with 41) and they also have a Bet Builder feature with plenty of different selections available. Each Premier League football match has around 400 different markets attached to it, so there is something for everyone to choose from, beyond the standard win-lose-draw of some bookmakers. Unfortunately, unlike Bet365, Copy Bet does not have any virtual sports available to bet on.

There are quite a few sports available to bet on in-play, but unfortunately, horse racing isn’t one of them and there is no live streaming available. Navigating the Copy Bet website is not the most straightforward experience, but once you have found your desired markets, it is relatively easy to place a bet. With regard to odds quality, Copy Bet are pretty average, although they do offer some odds boosts on selected markets, providing a little better value for money.

One plus point is that the minimum withdrawal amount is just £1, but Copy Bet asks customers to allow at least 48 hours for the process to complete, and processing times can vary between payment methods.

If you need to contact customer support, this can be a rather slow process at Copy Bet as they do not have a live chat feature. Instead, customers must fill in a contact form and wait for someone from customer service to contact them via email. Our reviewer found that it took around two hours for Copy Bet to reply to a query, so it can take time to resolve any problems.

To summarise, features of Copy Bet include:

  • Very generous welcome bonus

  • Good range of deposit methods accepted

  • Minimum £10 deposit

  • Bet builder feature

  • Very good range of sports to bet on

  • Minimum withdrawal amount of £1

10bet

#ad / 18+. New bettors; Code SPORT; Wager deposit & bonus 8x; Max qualifying bet stake=initial bonus; Valid 60 days; Min odds, bet and payment method exclusions apply; Full T&Cs apply. www.begambleaware.org

At first glance, 10bet’s welcome bonus appears to be even more generous than Bet365’s as there is a Free bet bonus of up to £50 available. However, taking full advantage of the promotion requires a more significant investment of funds than Bet365’s ‘Bet £10 get £30’ offer. At 10bet, it’s a 50% matched deposit bonus, so users will need to deposit £100 in order to receive the full £50 bonus. Not only that, the value of the deposit and bonus combined must be wagered eight times and with minimum odds requirements. Of course, you are free to deposit far less (the minimum deposit amount is £10) but the matched bonus will decrease accordingly.

10bet accept a reasonable selection of payment methods, including debit card, Neteller, PayPal and Trustly. The minimum deposit value is £10 for all of the above options.

Compared to Bet365, the 32 sports on offer for punters to bet on at 10bet feels a bit weak, but there is still plenty to choose from. There is a Bet Builder feature for football fans to enjoy, with a good number of selections which punters can use to build their own bespoke bet. While the website is fairly budget in feel, it is straightforward to navigate, and placing a bet is easy and intuitive. There are plenty of live betting markets and although live streaming is not available, there are stats and graphics for some events to help bettors to keep track of  the action as it happens.

In terms of odds quality, they are of average value. There do not seem to be any enhanced odds available, but there are some promotions available in addition to the new customer bonus, usually in the form of a Free bet once you bet more than a certain amount on a particular sport.

Despite the welcome offer requiring a large deposit to gain the highest bonus, the minimum withdrawal is a much more reasonable £1 when using most payment options. However, while £1 cash outs are permitted, you will need to contact customer service if you would like to withdraw any amount below £10.

Fortunately, customer support is very responsive, with live chat available between 8am and 1am daily to customers who are logged in to their account. It is also possible to contact the support team via email and telephone, as well as via social media, providing bettors with plenty of choice.

In summary, features of 10bet include:

  • Large welcome bonus - but it requires a large investment and repeated wagering

  • Responsive customer support

  • Reasonable range of payment options

  • £1 minimum withdrawal

  • Bet builder feature

Responsive customer support is essential as it allows bettors to quickly resolve any problems they may have, making for a more pleasant betting experience. Bet365 provide a 24/7 service via live chat, as well as a very comprehensive FAQ section which answers most standard queries well.

An enjoyable gambling experience can be enhanced by an attractive, intuitive and easy-to-use bookmaker website. While Bet365 does not have the most snazzy website in terms of looks, it is straightforward to use and most users should be able to find what they are looking for with ease.
