Plymouth suffers heavy loss in Rooney's first match in charge
Sheffield Wednesday defeated Plymouth Argyle 4-0 in the opening round of the English Championship. The match took place at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield.
For the home side, Jamal Lowe scored in the 35th minute, followed by goals from Josh Windass in the 82nd minute and Michael Smith in the 90+6 minute. Additionally, Plymouth's defender Brendan Galloway inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 52nd minute.
This match marked Plymouth's first official game under the management of Wayne Rooney. The former Manchester United striker took the helm of the club in May, signing a three-year contract.
Following this round, Sheffield Wednesday sits at the top of the Championship table with three points. In contrast, Plymouth Argyle is at the bottom in 24th place, having yet to earn a point.
In the next round, Rooney's team will host Hull City at home, with the match scheduled for August 17.
