Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Sheffield Wednesday are so filled with confidence that they are ready to leap into the play-off zone if supernatural events in their rivals' matches allow. But they also need to secure an away victory against Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough themselves managed to draw against Plymouth Argyle, even though it was on the road (3:3). Moreover, they had to come back three times, with two of their goals coming from corners. While it's commendable they scored three goals from 1.91 xG, their defensive performance leaves much to be desired: 3.56 xGA and 12 shots conceded, including 11 from inside the box. In the last 10 games, Middlesbrough have kept a clean sheet only once, against a Millwall side not particularly known for scoring.
Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday have scored regularly in eight out of their last 10 matches, averaging 1.5 goals per game. Most recently, they scored two unanswered goals against Stoke City. This run has resulted in five wins, two draws, and three defeats. They also concede a fair amount, averaging 1.4 goals per game.
Middlesbrough vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction
Despite these stats, Sheffield Wednesday have not frequently seen both teams score in most of their matches, only in half (5 out of 10). This makes us hesitant to bet on both teams to score, so we suggest betting on the total over 2.5. Even through Middlesbrough alone (seven out of 10), such an outcome should be assured.
